When the final flame was extinguished, 8,287 athletes had taken part. That was a 16 percent increase in participation. Opening Ceremonies was highlighted by an uplifting message from Jeff Blatnick, 1984 Greco Roman Wrestling Olympic Gold Medallist. Native Montanan Shannon Butler, 1991 NCAA 5,000m champion and TAC 10,000m champion, brought the torch into the stadium and Blatnick did the honors, setting the Games into motion.

TaeKwonDo was added to the sport line after Karate received a positive response in the 1990 Games. Hardin’s two-year-old Joshua Link was the youngest participant, qualifing for bowling. Larry Gillingham of Trout Creek was the oldest participant at the age of 82.
