Past Montana Governor Judy Martz said, "It is
the mission of the Big Sky State Games to provide the opportunity for
Montanans of all ages and abilities to participate in an Olympic-like
sporting event. The key being participation. It brings us together each
year and I think it brings out the Olympic spirit in all of us."
The Big Sky State Games is
conducted with sensitivity, integrity, and a commitment to the needs of
the athlete, volunteer, and sponsor. The organizers strive to bring the
Olympics closer to Montana and Montanans closer to each other.
The Big Sky State Games feature
the sports of the Olympic and Pan American Games as well as a few local
favorites. The Games attract participants of all ages, backgrounds, and
skill levels, bringing out former
and future Olympians as well as athletes for whom State
Games is a real career highlight.

History of the State Games
The State Games concept
originated in New York in 1978 with the Empire State Games. Last year more
than 500,000 athletes competed in the 40 State Games held across the
nation.
The Big Sky State Games is a
member of the National
Congress of State Games (NCSG) and recognized by the United States
Olympic Committee.
The 2005
State Games of America, was held July 28-31 in Colorado Springs,
Colorado. The 2005 State Games of America featured athletes from across
the nation who won medals in their local State Games in 2003 and 2004 in
one of 19 sports.
The 2007 State Games of America will once again be held in Colorado
Springs during August 2nd - 5th. BSSG athletes who won medals in the
2005 & 2006 Games will be invited.
